(NewsReady.com) – Authorities still controversially hold dozens of people in jail after the January 6 Capitol riot without bail more than a year after the event. Now, former President Donald Trump is offering them a ray of hope if he’s re-elected in 2024 – which is a real possibility, according to the polls.
Police arrested over 750 people on suspicion of taking part in the infamous riot, and most of them still haven’t been sentenced. The majority are awaiting trial or negotiating plea agreements, but authorities hold around 40 without bail in the DC jail. According to their lawyers, the conditions are appalling, with poor food, inadequate water supply, sewage in cells and abusive guards. Apparently, the problems have existed for years, but Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) highlighted them last November, when she visited the jail and compared their conditions to “prisoners of war.”
"If I run, and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly," said fmr. President Donald Trump of Jan. 6 political prisoners. "We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. https://t.co/mtpvynby4D pic.twitter.com/68Zx6J5TAg

Addressing a January 29 “Save America” rally in Conroe, TX, Trump promised, “If I run and I win, we will treat those people… fairly.” He continued, “If it requires pardons, we will give them pardons.” Obviously, anyone who committed crimes needs to face appropriate punishment, but it’s unacceptable to keep Americans in squalid conditions for over a year during a politically-motivated witch hunt, and Trump seems determined to right that injustice if he gets the chance.
