(NewsReady.com) – The field of artificial intelligence (AI) has grown rapidly over the last several years. Many companies are using the technology in one form or another. A fast-food restaurant recently announced a partnership with a hyper logistics company to create a new delivery service.
On May 17, Wendy’s announced it teamed up with Pipedream to create a new system for an underground AI robot system. The companies say they developed the pilot program to deliver food orders to people who order online. The robots will move the food “from the kitchen to designated parking spots in seconds.” They want to make the process easier and faster for customers.

According to the press release, Pipedream has designed its technology to make the process of picking up a digital order “fast, reliable, and invisible.” The kitchen will be connected to an Instant Pickup portal that will be located outside of the restaurant. Robots are used to transport the food underground to the portal. Customers won’t have to leave their cars to get their food, making the entire process go more smoothly.
The system is the first of its kind, by Wendy’s COO Deepak Ajmani, thinks it “has the potential to unlock greater mobile order speed of service and accuracy” while allowing the company to deliver fresh, hot food to its consumers.
Pipedream CEO Garrett McCurrach said the company is “proud to partner with an iconic [and] innovative brand” to bring its vision to the market. He went on to say the technology solves the “order handoff” and allows the restaurant to focus on the important part: serving customers with “delicious, high-quality food.”
Wendy’s is also testing an AI chatbot that will take customers’ drive-thru orders. The restaurant chain is partnering with Google to create that system. It hopes to reduce long wait times for people who are going through the drive-thru.
Wendy’s has not announced where the first new robot delivery system is going to launch.
