(NewsReady.com) – When Russian President Vladimir Putin began waging war on Ukraine a month ago, he enraged many world leaders. Since then, millions of Ukrainians have fled their country, and thousands of people have died on both sides of the conflict. Reports now indicate one of Putin’s top advisors has left his job as a result of the invasion.
According to TASS, a Russian state media outlet, Anatoly Chubais resigned from his position. He was one of the president’s high-ranking advisors, giving Putin his first government job in the ‘90s. He reportedly left his position in protest of the war and left the country, as well.

BBC reported that Chubais was responsible for pushing Putin’s climate change policies to the international community. When the war began, he reportedly posted a photo on social media of a murdered opposition figure – many saw this as a sign he wasn’t in favor of the conflict. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the advisor quit his job, saying, “But whether he has left [Russia] or stayed, that’s his personal affair.”
Earlier in March, Arkady Dvorkovich stepped down from chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation and spoke out against the war. He served as deputy prime minister under former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and said his thoughts were with the Ukrainians. He told Mother Jones that wars didn’t just kill people, they “kill hopes and aspirations.”
