(NewsReady.com) – President Joe Biden has repeatedly said he will not pardon his son, Hunter Biden. A jury convicted the younger man of three felony gun charges in June. The White House reaffirmed the president’s position on the matter, but not everyone believes him.
On July 23, Andrew Bates, a White House spokesperson, told Fox News Digital that Biden spoke about the possibility of pardoning his son in an ABC News interview last month. He said he was not going to do it. “His comments stand,” Bates said.
In December, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “I’ve been very clear; the president is not going to pardon his son.” Before Hunter’s conviction, Biden told the press he had no plans to pardon Hunter. After the jury handed down its decision, the president once again denied plans to pardon his only living son, saying he was convinced the trial was fair.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) brought up the possibility of a pardon for Hunter on July 22, the day after Biden dropped out of the presidential race. He discussed it on his podcast, “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” telling his audience that he “100%” believes the president will issue a pardon for his son.
Cruz went on to say that he didn’t think the pardon would come before Election Day. He said Biden would “stick around,” but after that, he expected the pardon to happen.
The president dropped out of the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. He said that he determined it was the best course of action for the country. Multiple Republicans speculated that Biden would pardon Hunter after he left the race.
Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) posted Biden’s announcement and said, “Standby for Hunter Biden’s pardon.” Henry Rodgers, the chief national correspondent for the Daily Caller, posted a photo of Hunter Biden at the White House and joked that the first son was there waiting for it.
Biden has until the moment of the next president’s inauguration to issue pardons.
