Thurston County Prosecutor Elizabeth McMullen filed a probable cause affidavit with the court in a case against 53-year-old Chae Kyong An. According to the document, 42-year-old Young Sook An told law enforcement how she returned home from church with her children on October 16 and saw her estranged husband’s car in the driveway. She said it wasn’t unusual because he washed laundry once a week at the house. An argument between the two erupted on that day, and Chae An tied her up. She told police she was able to use her Apple Watch to call 911 and alert a friend.
First responders arrived at the home, but the divorcing couple was gone. Young An told officers her husband took her into the woods about seven miles from her home. He allegedly tossed her into a shallow grave, stabbed her breasts, and covered her with dirt and a fallen tree. Young An told police she stayed in the dirt for hours until it was dark. At that point, she escaped the grave and ran to a home outside of the woods.
Police arrested Chae An hours later near the woods. He’s currently being held without bail on charges of first-degree domestic violence kidnapping, first-degree domestic violence assault, and attempted first-degree murder.
