Jamie Raskin Travels The United States Advocating For Other Democrats

(NewsReady.com) – Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has become one of the most vocal anti-Donald Trump lawmakers in the House. He rose to prominence when he served on the January 6 committee. Now, he’s traveling the country on a mission to get more Democrats elected.

Raskin has already campaigned for Democrats in 17 states during the current election cycle. He reportedly has plans to travel to at least nine more. Axios reported that the Maryland Democrat said Americans are “in the fight of our lives for democracy and freedom” right now. And he explained that he knows all about “constitutional democracy,” making him the perfect man to deliver the message.

Raskin was the lead impeachment manager during former President Trump’s second impeachment trial. He has served in Congress since 2017 and worked as a constitutional law professor before he was elected to serve Maryland’s 8th district. He co-founded the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project at the American University Washington College of Law in DC.

The congressman has also overcome some significant issues in his personal life. In 2010, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and went into remission the next year. In 2022, he announced he was diagnosed with lymphoma, and went into remission in April 2023. In early 2021, he revealed that his 25-year-old son, Thomas Raskin, had taken his own life on New Year’s Eve.

Former CIA agent, Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) explained to Axios that Raskin’s biggest strength is that he’s “wonky and professional” as well as “extraordinarily human and kind.” Those traits, on top of his extensive constitutional knowledge, make him popular with Democrats and a good choice to spread their message.

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) said the congressman is “relatable, human,” and people love him.

How well that is going to translate into votes is another matter entirely. Democrats are desperate to keep the Senate and White House, but they are facing an uphill battle. It’s unclear whether the Raskin effect will help them.
