Nikki Haley Comments on the Growing Kerfuffle Among GOP Politicians Over Taylor Swift

(NewsReady.com) – Are you baffled at the sudden focus on bland pop star Taylor Swift? Well, it turns out you’re not the only one. GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Hayley can’t understand it either, but she doesn’t think the artist is something Republicans need to worry about.

Taylor Swift is a cultural phenomenon. Expert marketing has helped her sell more than 50 million albums and get her music streamed over 80 billion times. She’s made TIME Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people three times and was named its “Person of the Year” in 2023. She’s managed to stay in the top ranks of the music industry for almost 20 years, transitioning seamlessly from country to generic pop, and of course, she’s known for her huge and devoted legion of fans.

Now, it looks like President Joe Biden is hoping to win votes from those fans as his team seeks an endorsement from the singer. That wouldn’t be much of a surprise; Swift backed Biden’s 2020 campaign, and it wouldn’t exactly be unexpected if she supported him this year too. However, her very public relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce has added a new factor. Some Republicans now believe the NFL is rigging games so the Chiefs win the Super Bowl—and add extra punch to a Swift endorsement of the Democrat.

Nikki Haley isn’t buying it. Talking to CNN on February 1, she told host Jake Tapper that she doesn’t “know what the obsession is.” She praised Swift as an artist, saying she’d taken her daughter to the singer’s concerts, but added that she “can’t believe that that’s overtaken our national politics.” Haley highlighted serious issues facing the country, including border security and the economy, as far more important than who Swift is dating and who she’ll endorse. Of course, one person we can be sure Swift won’t be endorsing is Nikki Haley.
